Car Tax Refunds

In some instances, you may be eligible for a car tax refund from the DVLA.  This is usually applicable if:

  • You no longer have the vehicle
  • The vehicle is off the road
  • The vehicle has been sold or transferred to another person
  • The vehicle has been stolen
  • The vehicle has been written off or scrapped
  • The vehicle has been registered as exempt from car tax

In order to apply for a car tax refund, you need to tell the DVLA about the circumstances as listed above and present proof of these circumstances.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive a refund for the remaining months left on your road tax.
