What Is The DVLA ?

Set up in 1974, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), formerly known as the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre (DVLC) is the governing body which regulates all vehicle and driver registrations within the UK.  Based in Swansea, the DVLA collects £5.6 billion every year in road tax which is then used to complete road improvements and infrastructure.

The DVLA database currently contains around 30.9 million vehicles and, the DVLA monitors vehicle use through registration plate camera technology which identifies vehicles being used without being taxed.
